Prof. Hariz, at Beaumont Neuroscience Feb 3rd 2006

Prof. Hariz, M.D., Ph.D., Edmond J. Safra Chair of Functional Neurosurgery
National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London will speak at the Beaumont Neuroscience meeting on Friday, February 3rd 2006. Prof. Hariz will lecture on
Functional neurosurgery for Parkinson´s disease and dystonia.

Prof. Hariz was born in Lebanon 1953. He took the French Baccalaureat and studied medicine in Reims, France and Umea, Sweden. He then spent some years in gynaecology and urology before moving away from these areas to the brain. He trained in neurosurgery with Lauri Laitinen in Umea in Northern Sweden and completed his PhD in 1990 on stereoctic neurosurgery. Prof. Hariz took the post of Associate Professor from 1993-2001 and become Professor of Functional Neurosurgery in 2001. He was then recruited by the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square to enter a Chair of Functional Neurosurgery UCL and honorary consultant at the National Hospital, in October 2002.
Prof. Hariz built up a Unit dedicated to functional neurosurgery within the Sobel Department for Movement neuroscience
His research interest is in surgery for Movement disorders, surgical issues, imaging and patient evaluation.
