
The 47th annual Irish Neurological Association Meeting, under the presidency of Dr. Kevin Murphy, will take place on May 12th and 13th 2011 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo.
The Tabletop shape of Benbulben Mountain is the symbol of Sligo. This unusually shaped mountain was created during the ice age by glaciers, which carved the landscape visible today

This is the first call for abstracts for poster or platform presentation. The closing date for submission is Friday, 18th March.
N.B. Submissions will not be accepted following the closing date.
Abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word by virus-free email to the IICN at admin@iicn.ie
Submissions must be limited to 200 words. Please attach the names of authors, indicating the presenter, the Institution(s)/place of work and contact email address and telephone. Please indicate preference for platform or poster presentation.
Abstract submissions must be supported by a member of the Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience. Receipt of abstracts will be notified to the presenter, who will again be contacted following selection of abstracts

Guest Lecture
Professor Allan Ropper, MD
The Callaghan lecture will be delivered by Professor Allan Ropper, Department of Neurology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts. Dr. Ropper is Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He trained in internal medicine at UCSF-Moffit Hospital and in neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital. His focus has been mainly in the field of neurological intensive care and related disorders such as Guillain-Barrè Syndrome. His recent work includes studies of gene therapy as a potential treatment for peripheral neuropathy and he is conducting an NIH sponsored study of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy.
He has over 150 publications and is an author of the most widely consulted textbook of neurology, Principles of Neurology, which is in its ninth edition. He is a longtime contributor to several major textbooks of medicine including “Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine”. He has received numerous awards for teaching and service. Dr. Ropper is an associate editor of the New England Journal of Medicine He was recently elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the American College of Physicians.
The title of Professor Ropper's lecture will be "My Mistakes in Neurology"
The Callaghan lecture is named in honour of Dr. Noel Callaghan.

The Radisson Blu Hotel is located at Rosses Point, Sligo, and offers views of Sligo Bay and surrounding Mountains.
The hotel is 7 kilometers from Sligo City Centre and 10 kilometers from Sligo airport which operates 2 flights daily to & from Dublin.
Ireland West Knock Airport has daily flights to & from the UK & US and is 45 minutes drive from the hotel.
Dublin is only a 2.5 hour drive while Galway is only a 2 hour drive. Derry & Belfast are 138 and 200km away respectively.

Irish Neurological Association Dinner
The Irish Neurological Association Dinner will take place on the evening of May 12th at Markree Castle. 
Markree is a 16th century castle. the owners of whom are descended from the mighty O'Brien Clan. Máire Rua, widow of the slain O'Brien, pragmatically married Edward Cooper, an officer of the conquering Cromwellian army, and gave her two sons the Cooper name. This provided protection against the English invaders and the current owner of Markree is a direct descendent of the second son.
