Research and Training in Stroke Medicine

Training and research in Stroke Medicine at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery

(Professor Martin Brown)

Two vacancies are available for training and research in Stroke Medicine at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Dr Rob Simister has just completed his one year of Stroke Medicine sub-specialty training at the National Hospital, and this clinical training post will be advertised shortly. This post provides training in hyperacute stroke treatment, including thrombolysis, emergency assessment of TIAs, training in stroke prevention and stroke Neurorehabilitation. The post is available to SpRs at ST3 level and above and, after successful completion of the year, trainees will be eligible to have a CCT in Stroke Medicine added to their CCT in Neurology or other parent specialty. We will also have available later in the year, at least two Stroke Research Fellowships posts available for an SHO or registrar who would like to spend at least 2 or 3 years in full time research, working towards a PhD or MD. There are various topics within the field of stroke available, incorporating clinical trials, MR imaging, neuropsychology and genetics. We would also be happy to help those who are thinking about research in a year or two’s time to apply for one of the joint MRC/Stroke Association Research Fellowships.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact myself or David Werring, via Helen on +44 207 829 8753, for further details or to arrange an appointment. Alternatively, you may email Professor Martin Brown (m.brown@ion.ucl.ac.uk).
