Fellowship in Autoimmune Neurology

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA offers a 1-2 year Fellowship in Autoimmune Neurology.

This Fellowship is designed to train academic neurologists in the emerging 21st century subspecialty of autoimmune neurology. The spectrum of neurological disorders currently recognised to have an autoimmune pathogenesis includes both idiopathic and paraneoplastic entities, and intersects all traditional neurology subspecialties:

  • Movement Disorders
  • Epilepsy
  • Behavioural
  • Neuromuscular
  • Autonomic
  • Demyelinating
  • Neuro-oncologic
  • 'Degenerative' disorders

By providing an opportunity to participate in contemporary immunology concepts and translational activities, the Autoimmune Neurology Fellowship ideally complements sub-specialisation in neuromuscular, CNSdemyelinating, PNS/autonomic, behavioural, movement or seizure disorders, neuro-oncology or paediatric neurology.

The Fellow's clinical time will be divided between the Neuroimmunology Laboratory and the Autoimmune Neurology Clinic. On a daily basis, the Fellow will be involved in clinical interpretation of neural autoantibody diagnosis, investigation and management of autoimmune neurological disorders. The Fellow is expected to devote at least 30% of their time to research projects and to participate in interdisciplinary conferences at the Mayo Clinic and nationally. The Fellow will also have the option of rotations in other subspecialties (e.g. MS, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy), rheumatology and oncology.

There will be abundant opportunities for translational research and for manuscript preparation, and also potential for a second year of Fellowship with greater research emphasis.

Mayo Clinic's Autoimmune Neurology Fellowship can be tailored to your specific needs and career goals. After completion of this Fellowship, doctors will be prepared to pursue a cutting-edge career in academic neurology.
